Sleeping Without a Face

Its so hard to stop acting, we all play a part in the grand play of life. We each wear different masks and don our different persona's. Its inevitable, we are all influenced by our surroundings and the people we interact with, we are constantly playing out different roles. How do we unmask? how do we forget our surroundings and revert back to a state where we knew of know influences. This infantile state is lost, we can try to obtain a utopia without masks but it all comes back to influence. I take my mask off every night, i drift into a land without them and exist there free from influence, free to act and play how i want. This state is often overlooked when attempting to refrain for the use of masks. The one thing i search for is the answer to unmask myself and ironically i hate going to sleep.

Realisation

Its amazing how things you've learnt in your past play on your subconcious. Theres a big difference between copying someones work and being influenced by it. The difference is ever so fine and quite often mistaken for the wrong one. I learnt of the Arnolfini Portrait a few years back, its one of the painting i studied at college. I thought it was all but a memory but i can see it emanating here in my current work. I was actually trying to create something entirely different but by chance i produce a picture thats formal elements are the same as Jan Van Eyck's. I love it when things like this happen all by chance.
